i think you figured it out!!! ok i do have the 80 pin cable for my rom drives my floppy is a 40 though. but unless im mistaken the set up on roms is cables select, slave, master. in that order correct? cause my new dvd doesnt have anything marked on it but its set on the far left which would mean cable select correct? while my cd is set for master(far right). that is probably the problem im guessing. one set to cs and the other to master.

now which is better suited for master cd or dvd or doesnt really matter which one is which?

It varies from drive to drive, usually depending on the manufacter. it doesnt really matter which is which as far as drive goes but they do need to be set right. That thing must be marked somewhere, on the pcm board, label or some where. Maybe post the model and brand of the dvd drive and we can find some details on it.

it was on the top of the drive (which i couldnt see with it in the computer) but it is cs, slave, master.

Ok, its straight forward from there. Set one to slave, other to master and give it a test run.

ok i put the dvd as master and cd as slave. the dvd thing works perfectly but on my cd drive i get this still "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel"

last time it was the dvd drive that did that when it was set to cs, and my cd was set to master.

just trying to double click so it plays the cd.

open my computer, right click the drive, go to autoplay tab and check the settings there. Everything in that window is pretty self explanatory, maybe its that simple. If the drive does that with anything thats in it, it may be time to replace it.

sorry i took so long. i tried cs and still the same. looks like i should pick up a new cable then..
