IDE controllers and device recognition

Background - I deleted RedHat from my dual-boot (XP) box and formatted the C: drive. Upon reloading of XP, my other HD is not recognized. I can only get one of my optical drives to show up and my A: drive still works because I had to use boot disks to load XP.

Technical stuff - I am using the ABIT IT7 motherboard with 1GB of RAM,
2 x 80GB hard drives (not RAID), DVD ROM, CDRW, and A: drives.

My attempts - I tried to slave the other HD, swapped out ribbons, and tested the hard drives in another box (both work fine). Next I am going to reload XP to see if it comes up with all my stuff this time. I also used device manager to see if they will come up but they will not. PnP in the BIOS is enabled.

Questions - How do I get all my drives to show up? Can I work within the OS to have this remedied?

does the drive show up in the disk management (right click MY COMPUTER, choose MANAGE, DISK MANAGEMENT)

Since you said you had linux installed, i am thinking that you might have a non-windows partition on it, and it's just not showing up as a drive letter.

Other than that try going into bios (prob [DEL] at startup) and choosing STANDARD CMOS FEATURES. Does the drive show up there? If not, check under INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS and browse around looking for an option to enable/disable the secondary IDE controller. Make sure it's enabled.

The fact that this drive shows up in another machine is sort of weird.. let us know what you find out!
