Questions about Hard Drive switches

I bought an eMachine a couple years back, now the warranty will not cover nothing that wrong with it. my question is can i switch the HD out of the emachine and put it in an old compaq i have. the compaq works but just has 4 GB HD in it.

technically yes but there may well be consequences. Chances are it will trigger the activation because of massive hardware difference and will eventually lock itself up. Short of that, you will have to install drivers and such. If your talking about formatting it then installing a fresh install of windows, thats a whole different ball game and should be fine in such instance.
