I just bought a system and put it together myself. I have an ECS K7S5A Pro with an AMD Athlon 2200. After putting it all together I tried to boot and nothing came up on the monitor, even if i tried hitting delete to bring up the BIOS. I thought maybe the AGP slot wasnt activated so I put in a PCI card and nothing. Finally I tried clearing the CMOS and still nothing. What do I do now?

Do you know if any power is actually reaching the motherboard,do any lights come on or can you hear the processor fan?

Yes, power does come on to the case and to the fans.

Well apart from checking absolutely every connection and cable I'm as lost as you.I was hoping someone else would come in with some advice as I'm no PC expert,just someone whos had too many problems in the past and learnt from them!! :S
You know it may even be your power supply.I had to buy a new one when I upgraded my CPU coz it was'nt powerful enough to power the chip.
Give it a couple of days and maybe someone else will post something of some use.

I just went and looked. My power supply is a Powermax 8800D 400 Watts. It says it supports Intel "Petium-4" and AMD "Athlon XP". My chip is an AMD Athlon XP 2200. So its not the power supply is it?

well thats something I really could'nt tell you.I guess you would have to work out how much juice your pc is using and take it from there.The documentation that came with the chip should tell you the voltage needed but all that is way out of my depth.
The only other thing you could try is the old process of elimination.Slowly take things out one by one and try booting up.Dont go as far as taking your chip out but try taking out a few PCI cards and then your graphics and try booting after each one.Of course theres also the possibility that something is not right in your BIOS,but again am not experienced enough to go don't that road.

Hey thanks a lot. I think that it is the motherboard and just ordered a new one. I hope that it was just a screwed up BIOS and the new one i purchase will work. Thanks for the help.

No problem,but I hope its your motherboard thats blown and not your CPU.I had a similar problem when I tried to upgrade last year,I blew my chip on the same day as I recieved it!!

Yep - as you've basically worked out, if there is power to the system but you get no beeps on bootup then it's either the processor or the motherboard

Ok, I bought a new motherboard and nothing happened again. All the fans work and the drives turn on but nothin appears on my monitor. So I guess that it is the processor now, right?

I bought all the parts at a computer show that comes once a month so everything I bought cannot really be renturned untill next month. I payed $59 for the new motherboard and now I saw the CPU for $59 as well. I am goin broke quick. :cry:
