SATA vs. PATA

Postby Angborn » Fri Mar 12, 2004 6:45 am

So, you guys have hopefully been following along w/ my computer building thread... and it just came to my attention that I may have shorted myself on my hard drive...

I need feedback on SATA and PATA.

I got a PATA drive (Ultra ATA/66-100, 8MB) for a IC7G-Max3 MOBO w/ Dual RAID technology on it, and a P4 3.2 CPU... did I just shoot myself in the foot by not getting a SATA hard drive?

[Edit] - I think I understand the difference between the two types (serial and parallel), but, what I'm really wanting to know is, is the difference even that big of a deal, or not? Am I gimping my computer by not having SATA?

I don't know about shooting yourself in the foot but SATA is the better choice. Hot swapping and modern IDE cable compatability are favorable points.
You have to be the judge of whether to replace the drive or not. Here's a very simple to understand article: .
