External HDD issue

Hello everyone, I have a 2 TB external hdd from WD. It is currently unusable due to an accident.
The wires were tripped on while data was transferring via USB, however the power and USB cables were intact but the process had stuck. I unplugged both cables and the hdd has since been unusable.
The hdd do not show up when plugged in, however Acronis disk director saw it as unalocated space.
I have tried to reformat the hdd but the process could not be completed.
When I tried to recover lost partitions it gives an I/O error.
The hdd was a week old.
Is it possible to recover data off the hdd? It had about 250gb of data.
Is it possible to at least return it to a usable state w/ or w/o the old data?
Any help would be appreciated.

i would take the drive out of the enclosure and connect it straight to your motherboard and see what happens then. It will be hard to say if the drive itself is acting up or the enclosure until you seperate them.

I forgot to mention that I have taken it out if the enclosure and used it with another. Same results. The problem is the hdd. I cannot use it directly as I'm on a laptop and it's a desktop hdd and a desktop is not available to try that out.

ah, thats not good. You wont save the data but if acronis saw it as unallocated you may be able to re partition it and format it to get it working again.

Download WD's tool for your drive and test it. If it fails you should be able to rma it and get a replacement.
