Hi,

Try running CheckDisk on the drive.

Start > type in .......cmd ...... ( do not hit Enter )
Right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator
At the prompt type ... chkdsk D: /F ......Enter
[ note: there is a space before and sfter D: and D: is the drive letter of the drive partition you wish to check }

There is another way to run a check disk operation without using the command box:

Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check (D:).
Click Properties, and then click Tools.
Under Error-checking, click Check Now. The Check disk options dialog box appears.
Select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, and then click Start.

Note you will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

There are many way to check the status of hard disc. But your problem is different. I think You have to set up operating system again. If Your computer get the new operating system then you can confirm that your hard drive is still alive. If operating system do not set up in your computer then you have to change your hard drive.

Hope this solution can solve your problem.

Good luck
