Try removing power to all devices except your motherboard. This week I had a hard drive that went bad, and held down the system when it was plugged in. The power came on fine without the hard drive, but as soon as that drive was plugged in the system was dead as a doornail. It really sucked because i could't get the data off the drive and the customer hadn't backed up in over a month.
