my pc doesn't boot upcompletely

when i try to start my pc, it doesn't load completely. what i'm given is the following message, which follows the general information (such as the ram memory, mouse and keyboard detection.....so on), :

Fixed Disk: Maxtor 94610H6-(SM)
Event Log messages, enter Setup to view
ERROR
0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0
ERROR
0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0

my pc worked just fine until i tiped over a bit, while it was off, b/c my cd rom drive didn't open; i then tried to start my pc but i received the above message. i opened my pc to see if anything was disconnected, but the only thing i saw disconnected was a single wire (foxconn 0036) that starts from my cd rom drive. i have no clue about connections, so if thats not enough info, please let me know, thanks.

Sounds like you lost a drive. By lost I mean, dead. A former HD. Sad. I hope no data that you need was on it. Or it's backed up somewhere.

dude, you have to be kidding me........are you sure it isn't just a result of something being disconnected? anything but a dead hard drive.

Maxtor has a utility you can run against this drive on thier website. Put this drive a secondary drive on another machine and run this. It may allow you to boot from a floppy and run it from the machine it's in, I'm not sure. But this will tell you what the problem is.

HD's only have two cables, one grey IDE and one 4-wire power. If both are in, then cables can't be the problem.

Also, you said you tipped it over. I am assuming it actually hit the floor. This also leads me to believe its gone.
