Unbelievable Loading Time

Iam new to this forum and need some help

Ok i have a 800mhz
128mb Ram
64mb GeForce4 Mx 440
Windows 98
44.03 Detonator Drivers
all patched and updated

Well my PC usually starts up loading very slow
Sometimes it takes 5 min to start up
and the loadign lights that flickers when the comp is thinking just does little tinny flickers and never really tries to load. I dont know a whole lot about computers but i know this isnt right. Sometimes it will start up in under 10 seconds when it runs fine , but that only happends once in a while .

When The comp is running good the light will be solid yellow when loading but when it is running bad is just sorta flickers and makes getting anything done impossible, Internet Explorer can take up to 1 min to load.

Now I think It could be my Vidoe Card Conflicting with something else
but i have no idea why it works good sometimes and bad the other times

So if any can help me it would be appreciated.

since this is an inconsistant problem, I don't have much to suggest.

if it were my pc causing the problems, the first thing I'd do would be to open up my pc, and re-seat everything I could. If you've never done it before, you might want to have an expirianced computer person watch over you to give you tips

if that didn't fix the problem, i'd be checking all the fans in the system to make sure they are spinning well. The hard drive would be next on my list, but you can't really check that, so you'd have to replace it.

well I gave you a couple of things to check, if you could at least do the re-seating of everything and let us know how things are going we can give you more suggestions

Is it just windows loading that causes these problems, or do you mean any program loading loads slowly? If it is just windows, do you have an unused network card in your computer - if you do, try giving the network card a static ip address and see if that solves the problem (the default behaviour is to get an ip address from a server - if it can't do this, it can take a while to timeout & continue booting).

I don't think I'd simply uninstall GoBack right away. It is a useful program. Try going to MSCONFIG / Startup and uncheck all the GoBack entries. (I think there are three) Now restart your computer and see if your load time improves. (It might take two restarts) If this was the problem, try going into the GoBack program and clearing some of the history or cache. That will make it load a little quicker. You could also uninstall then reinstall GoBack, to get it working right but you will lose all the stored history of your computer.
