Have you gone to Device Manager and removed the device, reboot and then let windows detect it again and install the drivers that way?

Sorry for the slow reponse. But yes I have deleted the driver from the Device Manager and then rebooted and let it find it and install the drivers but no good still does the same thing. When I start the from a power down it will start up with generic windows98 se VGA drivers but when I restart it, everything is fine. This is a very confusing problem. I have tried updateing from the Nvidia site, I've tried too update from the the driver update tab on device manager but nothing works.

The card that I switched it out from should be back from being exchanged soon but I the only thing I'm wondering is if this problem is going to follow over to that card too (which is a Geforce4 MX). I hope you or someone can cast some light on this.

Thank you for you help

Thanks for you Help GeekGirl. OK like I said I know what I'm doing but my brain is fried. So I'm going too ask you a question let say I want too remove the VGA driver and start from scratch. Could you give me a step by step so I know I'm not missing that one little thing that is holding all this up. Ok too put it simpler if you had this problem what you do.

Thank for you time and input

When you say you d/l the driver from the website and it works fine and dandy and works like it should what do you mean? Can you change the resolution? And then when it converts over to the generic driver you resolution is not set properly?
When you go into Device Manager is there a yellow :?: beside display adapter? If there is no :?: then the deivce is working properly.
Have you removed the device physically then re-seat it?

If Windows detects a problem with the video card or video driver, it restarts with the VGA driver.

Heres a link on how to install or change a video driver.

I'd say if your computer keeps losing the driver the card is on its way out. The only other thing would be a faulty monitor.

Hope this helps
