If you downloaded the software and drivers...goto the Device Manager, highlight the Device you wish to update, click Update Drivers, and point to the folder where the software was downloaded too.See if it loads the drivers.

I know it looks like it's your machine, but can you check the USB devices on another machine just in case?

You said ANOTHER...is this a 2nd reader or just an upgrade?
Was the old card reader completly un-installed,including drivers?
Did you install the Software for new reader first?

windows update doesn't include driver updates.. for that, you need drivers from your motherboard manufacturer.. this could be the problem.. OR... if the hub you have is a self powered hub.. i.e. it doesn't have a plug to connect to a power socket at the wall.. then it may be that you are loading too many devices to it..

try each device one at a time.. and update your motherboard drivers.

if you're running XP, you can try this :
START-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager
Select view and click on display hidden devices. Uninstall all usb devices.
Now reboot and install all USB devices properly
