Postby silverandblack74 » Fri Aug 20, 2004 6:01 pm

Both my dvd drive and cd/rw drive wont play cd-roms. My dvd drive can play dvd's and read and rip audio cd's but won't open any type of cd-rom. My cd/rw can read, burn, and rip audio cd's but will not play any type of cd-rom either. Please help me if you can.

Try un-installing them from Device Manager and let Windows detect them and load the Drivers, see if that works.

Hey silverandblack74 Image

Are you receiving any type of an error when you put in the cd? Like does it auto play? If you go to My Computer and open the drive from there what does it do?

Alittle more info plz

No cd-roms will play as in start up or load. I tried uninstalling both devices from device manager but as soon as I do it, the system automatically reboots and goes to disk check and states an error has ocurred. When I try to open a cd-rom in my computer with auto play it says the disk is not formatted, and this happens with any cd-rom in both the dvd drive and cd/rw drive.

If it isn't the audio wire, try disconnecting one of the units and test the other for full functionality. You might have the jumpers set wrong on one of the units.

Has this just started happening or have they worked in the past?
How do you have them set up? Which one is slave and which is master?
Are they both on the same IDE channel ?

It might be the "noide" problem in the registry if it was working properly

Go to http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=151911 it will show you how to get rid of it.

You would probably have yellow flags on the devices in Device Manager

There are no yellow flags on the device manager and the hardware wizzard says the device is working fine. If anyone can tell me why the system automatically reboots when I try to uninstall either of the drives I would like to know why. Thanks.

You might have a virus that is using the interup for redirection.

I agree with icecube a cleaning may be in order just to rule it out. You can try the following:

Download / Install / Update / and Run:

And:

Download and install: .
Run it and post a copy of the Log File for our mods to see if you have been hijacked.

A good onlinevirus scanner is

And Make sure that your Operating System and Internet Explorer are up-to-date by visiting the and downloading all of the Critical Updates and Service Packs.

You could try downloading and running HJT and posting a log file for viewing.

Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here

http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----It is all important.
