Postby cheekycritter » Sat Aug 21, 2004 12:00 am

I have a old p3 450mhz system 128 ram, so we got a newer system, i had that and my son i gave a old office 700mhz computer, and said that he could do whatever with the old 450mhz, so he decided to change the graphics and other things.
then he took the ram out and put it in his computer and it worked ok.
Then i relized i need some work that was on the old 450 that he had taken the ram from so, we put the ram in again, and now when it loads it starts up, reconizes there is ram in it and says ok, then it just stops and says wait, and does nothing else, normaly it would beep then start windows.
Is there anyway at all of getting the data of the computer? I have no back ups that has the data i need, please can some one save me a pc guy coming over to do it will cost a lot.
I can still get into the bios if that helps.I have a good pc knowlage, but this time i am stuck.help, please any one.

Thanx lots............

Hi Cheekycritter...
Are you comfortable removing the case of a working PC?

You could hook it up as SLAVE on any working PC and retrieve all the files you need.

I completely agree with the previous poster. The easiest way to get your data off of that drive is to simply move it to another pc and copy it to that other pc's drive.

If you don't feel comfortable opening the new pc up, you could always get an external exclosure for the old drive, so you could get the information through the USB port (hope that all made sense)

One thing to remember though, the old drive is likely a DMA 33 drive... if you're matching it with a DMA 133 drive, then you'll make the DMA 133 drive run at DMA 33.... which is not a good thing. Once you get the data you need off of the old drive you want to make sure you remove it from your computer.
