LAN problems

Postby richardgibbins2001 » Wed Aug 20, 2003 9:49 pm

i have been trying to set up a network in my ome all afternoon to no avail between my pc and my housemates laptop. the signal only seems to be going one way - i can ping his laptop, however i cannot see it or anything on it from my pc, and he cannot see my pc from laptop. ICS has been enabled from the pc, which registers as being on on the laptop (he can see if it is/isnt connected, speed etc) but cannot actually access the net through internet explorer, and cannot ping my pc from the laptop. we both are using XP and a network with a HUB. has anyone got any ideas as to what to do?? ive been working for 8 hours, and neither me or a friend who actually knows about computers can think of anything to do to get it sorted. all cables have been checked, and are working, as id the HUB, and all power cables are workin. the network card in the pc is fine, but dunno about the laptop as is built in. anyone got any ideas??? Cheers

Make sure both computers are on the same work group and have the software and drivers installed for the hub. if you are using a router as the hub make sure that it is set as the base sation not one of your computers try this out an dgive me the results

In Zonealarm there is a check box for internet connection sharing. Just check this box and follow the instruction from Zonealarm.

What operating Systems are these two computers?
Have you setup the laptop to use proxy setting to connect to the internet?
