an AMD or a CELERON?

Hi guys! i was wondering if anyone could clear some things up for me.

1. What would be the better choice here? An AMD Athlon or an Intel Celeron. It will be used for gaming. Which is more expensive? I cant afford a Pentium because its more expensive....

2. both will be used with the same hardware components. same memory, clock speed, etc... so i was wondering which CPU would be faster.

3. and If i use AMD, would it be better if i use an ATI Card or an NVIDIA card?

4. Some people i asked said that celeron was better because it was an Intel brand. But i know that Celeron has low L2 Cache thats why its slower and cheaper. I have an idea of how this L2 cache works but can u still explain it a bit to me?

5. If you could, would you give me a list of Pros and Cons for both products?

thanks guys!

For all your computer needs, whether it be gaming or business AMD is above the rest....... :| which would be above the Intel.......

 Some people i asked said that celeron was better because it was an Intel brand

Some people shouldnt be allowed to give advise.AMD will beat celeron AND P4 (sorry pentium fans, but its true).Video cards are a closer race though...Nvidia is my choice, especially on a AMD machine. There's not really alot that can be said in the way of pro's and con's.You can either buy the "Intel" name (vasoline not included  ) or you can buy AMD and get your money's worth.

wow! so AMD is better? and its cheaper than P4? wow

and NVIDIA is your choice of video cards... but i saw some benchmarking tests and ATI Beats Nvidia on all card counterparts for Geforce FX 5200 and 5900...

thanks guys...

The issue of Intel vs AMD is a little more convoluted than it appears.

If your not very experienced in installing cpu's into motherboards, you can fry an AMD chip in 5 seconds--just high center the fan or forget to plug in the fan.

Another issue is heat dissapation--Intel wins there

Here is a link and a quote:

http://www.portatech.com/faq.asp?ID=13

"Intel CPUs for example run at a dramatically lower temperature which allows Intel to permently fix a thick aluminum protective plate over the cpu core. This protective plate virtually eliminates the possiblility of damaging the CPU core during installation. Based on our experience the lower operating temperature on The Intel CPU also virtually eliminates the possiblility of overheating the CPU with anything other than a complete failure of the fan"

In my opinion, both are perfectly good to use if properly installed. The trouble is, thats not real life. Both of these processors have an operating envelope. Its kind of like racing a Ford Mustang against a BMW. The Ford can win, but it has to push the envelope to its limits.

ok... so what if i dont tinker with the CPU?, i dont touch the cpu anyway... i only move the other expansion cards...

Lot's of Motherboards (AMD or Intel)can be bought with CPU and Heatsink already installed.

so i wont worry about frying my AMD cpu anymore... right?

I used to be an AMD fan for years but once I got more into gaming AMD did not tickle my fancy anymore so I decided to spend a little more money and go with Intel P4 and it works great for me. I like ATI and have been using it for years I have read a lot of tests where ati beats nvdia then again I have read ones that its vice versa so really its all about preference. If I were you I would buy one or the other use it and if you like it go with it or I would try out those different components on another machine that has them to see what ou like. You can sit here all day read tons of crap about each of those and ask everyone what they think an by the end of the day you will still be undecided...so just go with your gut and buy what works for you. So if price is an issue go with amd and nvdia. Just my opinion :)
