New hardware problems please help!

Postby rayne6834 » Fri Nov 05, 2004 2:17 am

Hey all, I recently bought a new mobo/processor combo and im having troubles with it

My setup is...
Amd Athlon64 3200+
512mb Pc3200 DDR ram
Radeon9800pro 256mb
30gb Maxtor HD 7200rpm

I upgraded from
Amd Athlon xp2000+
geforce 4 mx440
256mb pc2100 ram
same hdd

Well problem is I installed the new hardware and turned it on it worked detected everything but when i went into windows setup i tried to format but it like freezes at 1% but when i quick reformat it formats totally but then gives me all sorts of errors during windows setup...I put the hdd in another computer and it did the same thing...i then put another hdd with xp already on it and it gave me an error and set it stopped windows from opening to prevent damage to my coputer...could something be wrong with my motherboard or is that hdd dead? I dont want to buy another if this hdd can be fixed...

Have you tried using a Win98 BootDisk?
Get one from

Boot the PC with the BOOT disk in the Floppy Drive.
Boot with no CD Support
Type" fdisk "...DELETE ALL Partitions
Once the Partition has been Deleted ,recreate the partition...reboot,choose RESTART without CD-Rom support...Format the drive.
Now restart your PC and go into the BIOS and change the BOOT Sequence to FIRST DEVICE=CD-ROM...save your settings, put the XP CD in the CD drive and REBOOT...

Should automatically install from the CD.

Let us know

Is there an OS on the HDD already or is it a NEW HDD?

I bought the same CPU with an MSI MOBO and tried to install an existing HDD with an OS already on it but it would not Format from the CD.
I had to do what I posted above...and it worked!!
Check my link below in my sig for a link to MySystem...

rayne6834... follow this link and it will explain how to FDISK old and new HDD's.

http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/fdisk-format.html

Is the Hardrive new or does it have an OS on it already?

A new MOBO should have a CLEAN FORMATTED HDD installed.

Read the link above on how to FDISK...then FORMAT the old HDD.

If you can't understand the instructions given...post back and we'll walk you through the process.
