LCD Monitor Problem - Help?

Postby msiler » Thu Nov 18, 2004 5:43 pm

I just purchased a new Sony SDM-S73 LCD monitor and for some reason cannot get the Settings to give me anything better than 256 colors at 1280x1024. (60hz refresh & small fonts, S3 ViRGE 4mb memory, updated the Sony driver)

As a result the colors and overall picture quality kind of suck. When I view photos or images on my Browser they are grainy and I am getting color shifts as well...

Seems everyone LOVES this monitor and I suspect it is something I am doing wrong or my computer is incapable of doing.

Your help appreciated,
-Matt-

If you're seriously using a 4Mb S3 virge then this is definitely your problem - this is an ancient card, and 4Mb is definitely going to limit your resolution and/or colour depth. Most cards today ship with 128Mb!!

From what I can tell i am using an S3 ViRGE (325) with 4mb memory.
It has worked just fine with my 17" CRT...

Ok then I guess I need to replace it...any recommendations?
I am not a gamer. Average home office user who runs my own
Real Estate company off my 'puter and spends a gazillion hours on the web...

I have a Biostar Motherboard running an AMD Athlon M4 Thunderbird at 1000Mhz
with 512MB DDR Ram (I think it is an NVidia-nForce)
I use W2K pro fo r my OS

Thanks in advance for the help.
