Ok, well I have (after three days of no sleep sigh) identified the problem.
The CPU is definately overheating....the fan attached to the heatsink is shot.
No idea how to identify and/or replace my heatsink.
Or even if I have to...will just replacing the fan be sufficient? That at least have a make and manufacturer on it, so I can at the very least order it (I think anyway heh).
CPU is still running hot though it seems, even when the fan is working (it starts off working and gradually dies) How do I know what is the right temp. for my CPU to be running at? (I have an Athlon XP 2100+ 1.7Mhz cpu on a Gigabyte Socket A Motherboard KT400 Series)

You can shop for a Socket A heatsink and fan combo.Any Socket A product should fit.As far as changing just the fan,it can be done but if your having cooling problems it would be best to change the heatsink also to something better than you currently have.
In my opinion..your cpu performs best running around 60c.A good program for monitoring it Motherboard Monitor.
You can get the software
You can find your sensor info
*you will need your board model #

Thanks for the advice. I just got thru....apparently so far so good. I actually changed the heatsink, woo hehe. Learn something new everyday as they say.
Turns out when I got the old heatsink off, the board does say 476 on it right next to the CPU, so I guess its A/476. The one I bought fits perfectly and it a huge upgrade fan wise Im sure. So far its sitting at 43c, and everything running smooth. Gonna give it some time and hope for no spontaneous reboots. If it crashes, guess Ill have to ask advice how to change the power supply next hehe. Thanks again for all the help.

Glad i could help.43C is an excelent temp, keep in mind that its normal for the temp to rise under different situations, the main being gaming. It could jump up 10 or so degrees under a load but it should ease back down as the load decreases.
Changing a PSU is easier than a heatsink, if thats any comfort to know. Its usually consist of 4 screws and a few plugs.Let us know if you need anything else.
