RAM upgrade problems

Postby jemmo » Tue Dec 07, 2004 8:49 pm

After my previous Mobo probelms I have upgraded my Mobo, and processor to a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000-G and a P4 3GHz with 512 Mb Kingston (PC3200) RAM.
After recently buying a digital camera I wanted to speed up the file transfer so bought another stick of Kingston RAM (exactly the same).
I installed the RAM but the PC got as far as the Windows 98 screen (loading Windows drivers?) and after a while it either reboots and goes to Safe Mode, or I get 'Windows general protection error. Please restart your PC'.
If I take out the second stick it all works fine.
I have gone to the Gigabyte site and downloaded/installed the latest BIOS (the one that says fixes start up problems) but still no good.
Is there anything else I should be checking?

Cheers all.

I do not recommend upgrading to XP from 98.
There are just so many things that can go wrong. :(

I would recommend a clean install.
