cpu lockup

Postby zilch » Sun Sep 14, 2003 6:53 am

:| Got hold of a second hand hp pavilion. It would freeze up completely
Opened it up and found cpu fan wasn't working. Replaced the fan and applied thermal grease to no avail....still freezing. Assumed the cpu (p-3) was damaged. replaced with identical processor and had no freeze ups for about 6 hours. Thought I had it whipped then it started freezing again. Any ideas!

Have you checked-out the power supply?

It's been in the back of my mind. Only 155 watt power supply. Will try one with higher wattage. Thanks! b][/b]

Wrong , 185 watt power supply , not 155. Any idea on which wire's on P-1
connector I could monitor with volt meter? This power supply looks out of the ordinary in design.

Look on the case..... It usually tells you the voltage by color code. Otherwise, look-up the brand on the net and check. You can let us know the brand and one of us could check. brad
