Video Projector

Postby josh10581 » Tue Feb 15, 2005 4:34 pm

I am looking into buying a video projector that will be used for videogame purposes as well as all around television watching fun. However I have quite a list of questions. Please keep in mind that all I really want is a screen size just a bit larger than a big screen tv, but with the capability to get larger if necessary. 16:9 ratio is not necessary, since the format of most of my activities will be in the 4:3 ratio.
1. What resolution is best?
2. How important is a higher or lower contrast ratio?
3. Same thing with the lumens.
4. Is the a certain ratio or formula for how far back the projector must be to get a certain image size?
5. Are most projectors functional from either floor/coffee table spot or from being hung?
6. Do most projectors require additional hardware to be connected directly or indirectly to a cable television source?
7. The easy one: What projector would you recommend for under $1k.

I know this is a lot of questions, however I want to make a very informed decision if and when i end up buying one.

I know I can't answer all of your questions, but check price and availability of replacement bulbs prior to purchase. Most replacement bulbs are VERY expensive, and can be hard to find through mainstream retailers.
