Monitor Resolution

Hello alll,

Me better half recieved a new 18" LCD monitor for her B-day....

It is a Microtek C893 18" LCD

The manual says that it's max resolution is SXGA 1280X1024 (factory preset settings) but in the settings section of windows I can set the monitor resolution up to 1600X1400 (something close to that anyway... working from memory)

Would this be overextending the monitors capabilities? Or does being a "plug and play" monitor give all info to the computer of what it is actually capable of? Does that question make any sense at all???

Thanks again

Junior

Most problems with monitors have to do with the scan refresh rate--set it wrong and you can putz out the monotor. (you really have to try hard to set it wrong--it can be done!) :|

LCD 's should not have that problem. The manual suggested resolution sounds like a minimum setting for that size screen.

any higher than 1280X1024 is usually asking alot from your eyes, muchless the monitor. personally, its seriously uncomfortable to do anything, other than game, above that resolution.

Thanks for the comments....

I agree with you liljim... Unfortunately, what "me better half" is doing takes up A LOT of monitor space.... right now, we are running a two computers... the 1st has a 21" crt and an 18" lcd both at 1280X1024 and the 2nd now has an 18" lcd running at 1280x1024. Idealy she needs 3-4 monitors on one computer to be viewing everything she needs to. (trading software can only be used on one computer at a time....)

So for now, untill we can afford to get her all the monitors she needs and the computer system to run it all, she is trying to make do with what we have. this means trying to increase what she can stuff on to them.....

It's kinda illrelavant because our old 18"lcd won't go any higher in resolution anyway....

Thanks again
