Hello 2Dcube, welcome to pctechforums.

It sounds like you may be talking about the monitor refresh rate. Go into your display properties, click the settings tab. Near the bottom of the window, click the advanced button. This brings up a new window, click the monitor tab and you should see something simular to this

Be sure that the Hide modes that this monitor cannot display is checked, then you can safely select a higher refresh rate from the dropdown box.

Hopefully you can translate my bad english into your dutch xp :)

Thanks a lot for your help, liljim. But it didn't work... I have set the refresh rate to 85 Hz, but the same problem still occurs. Btw, 85 Hz is the highest possible on my monitor it seems.
How come I still have this horizontal "line" moving across the screen, when the refresh rate of the monitor is higher then that of the game? I don't knwo a lot about hardware etc, but this is something I don't get.

That could be the video card, not the monitor. What kind of video card are you running and what game? It may be that the game requires more video power than you have, thus causing a poor performance. Just how bad of a problem is this? What i mean is, is it just annoying or is it to a point that the game is unplayable?

OK, I shall explain a few things: You won't know this game, because I am making it myself with the program Game Maker. It is a 2D (fast) sidescrolling platformer. The problem doesn't make the game unplayable, but it is annoying, yes. Luckily, it seems other people don't have this problem when playing my game on their PC.

I know Game Maker games need DirectX 8, but I believe I have DirectX 9b. I don't know where I can find what video card I have...?
