Little help pls

Postby fantom416 » Wed Oct 08, 2003 3:51 am

Aight this may be a long one and i pray u guys can help me
I am sure i have to buy new things, i just don't know what!
comp stats at bottom

I will start from the begining (sorry its long)
Used to play diablo2, until my friend told me about a better resolution, so i started to play on that. That is when my screen would freeze for a bit then come back, happened quite a bit. Tried going back to old resolution but same problems occured ( i am pretty sure this is due to overheating).
So i gave up on d2 and went back to playing counter-strike. Things were going fine until i discovered openGL mode
then the same problem occured of freezing, but it would crash game or just stay frozen.
I read some forums figured it was overheating, checked card and saw that the fan on the card wasn't spinning. (All that for nothing).
I had a hard time finding a replacement fan and ended up putting a expansion slot fan under video card which to no surprise didn't work.
Then more problem started to occur. (ddin't replace fan yet)
when i would turn on my comp it would restart itself while loading windows, or i would be in the middle of something and would hear an audible click from hard drive then in a few seconds comp would freeze. As well as programs crashing when i was able to get windows loaded.
I figured to formatt it, which i did but to no avail, same problems.
At this point i figured maybe my hard drive was messed up and called western digital to send a new one which they did.(same problem)
So i gave up and brought my comp to my friends house who i thought was pretty good with this type of stuff (not so sure anymore). We found a replacement fan for the video card, but could not power it off the video card itself for some reason and had to power it off the mother board instead.
Sadly this did not solve my problems, we formatted again and decided to test with quake 3. It would freeze and crash, so to would the game, but when not pushing the card seemed stable when idling.
So i decided to take my comp home and just make do with what i could, but same problems as before occured
-freeze and crash games
-reset or freeze while loading windows
-reset or freeze while idling

umm forgott to say running xp
have 2 case fans and exansion slot fan running.
grr i forgett how big my power supply is, i know it is decent, some people have suspected that maybe the problem (broken in some way not capacity wise)
