PC Boot Problem

Hey, I'll turn on my computer and the power supply fans will start going. As will the case fans(not connected to the motherboard) and CPU fan. But nothing else will come on. Every once in a while it will boot, but the chances of it booting have gotten slimmer as times passed. Now, I can't get it to boot at all. I believe this is a power supply problem, but wanted to get some other opinions before I go buy a new one. The power supply I am currently using is the one that came in my RaidMax case.
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 2800+
Motherboard: AOpen AK-86L
PSU: 420W
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600XT

Thanks for the help.
Sorry if something like this has been asked before.

Open up the case and push on each card to see if it is seated good. I've seen cards rise up and cause this sort of problem. Make sure the system is unplugged before you do this.

One of the other usual suspects is the video card. Could be bad.

You could be right about the power supply--it shouldn't cost more than $30 to get a replacement to test it out.

Hope this helps

If you have another PSU available, use it and see if the probems persists. After trying what Icecube told you... remove the PCI cards you have and switch the machine on. IF it switches on normally, most probably some card is causing the trouble.

Ok, I don't have another Power Supply. But, I do have another video card I'm gonna go try out. Thanks for the suggestions.

I installed the old video card, and it booted to the BIOS screen normally. Then I put back in my ATI card and it booted like it should. But, when I touched the monitor cable that goes into the ATI card, it went down again. The card seems to be in good. It's a rather new card.
Thanks

I'v seen many problems where the AGP port goes weird, and the slightest touch makes it stop working. So it soundss to me like a defective AGP port. Laying your computer down on the motherboard side, so that the motherboard and it's components are facing up may help a little, it has for me in the past... I'm guessing that your computer is currently tilted verticle?

You mentioned touching the monitor cable made things worse.

Some monitors, Sony's in particular has removable cables that attach to the monitor as well as to the video card. Check the back of the monitor and see if its a removable cable, it might just need to be tightened down.

Also examine the cable socket for bent pins
