Hey guys

I need to roll back my bios cos i messed up my pc, i read through the manual of my mother board and found this solution. Moving the jumper. But i've never done it before so i was just wondering if anyone can give me any info about it. Here is a picture of the part from the manual:

Also, what happens when you turn your pc on straight after having done it?

Another thing, will i need to reinstall windows?

Please, please help. Thanks for your time :)

By moving that jumper you are not rolling back your BIOS, you are resetting the config in the BIOS to factory defaults. This measure should only be done if you think you have fiddled inside the BIOS so much that you can't remember how to put it all back.

Moving the jumper is as easy as following the step by step in that manual. I think you can handle it.

You will not need to reinstall windows. Just make sure you go into your BIOS again after you reset it and put things the way they belong.

Can I ask why you feel you need to do this?

Well I can't even log into windows properly (i'm using a different pc at the mo) so i won't be able to put an older version on there, also I don't trust myself to do it the floppy disk way. You see the way I did it before was with a program called asus update that updates it for you. So....what do you recommend?

The floppy disk method is the best way to do it. This will avoid what happened to you previously. I have only ever done it with a floppy and I have never had any issues.

The MB manufacturor should have some step by step instructions on how to do this the floppy disk method.

Use the machine you are on now to download it to a bootable floppy. :)

When you update the bios with a floppy on boot, it usually asks you if you want to back up your present bios.

If you said yes, and gave the file a name, you can flash the bios back with the same floppy using the name you gave to the back up bios. Your system will be returned to the previous state.

Hope this helps

Just wanted to throw something else in, being that you have an asus board you might be lucky enough to have the bios recovery option asus offers. here's some links

This one will tell you if you have this feature, you need to know your board model #
