i could heat the world with my GPU heatsink

Postby defcon » Mon May 16, 2005 6:59 pm

Hi...Major problem i have borrowed a GPU from my m8 which kinda helps.....but today i installed my Geforce fx5200 128mb and i played Vietcong with it to remember what it was like to play with it..and the reason i dont have it in is because it used to overheat..but i didnt know it was that hot..when the game froze as i knew it would i rebooted my pc and then shutdown and i took my Geforce out and i actually scolded my hand on the heatsink..i really dont think it should be that hot...when i first bought it... it used to play games fine for hours on end but all of a sudden it just used to cut out after 1 minute...why could it be that hot..any help would be grateful

are you overclocking it ? if so that would be probably a reason. Next is did you install heat sink securely onto the GPU. Also consider having a third party heatsink for a Graphic card , there are many around.

No i have never O/C'd my card it just happened about 6 months of having it i could play a game all day but then one time it just didnt work for more than 1 minute..The heatsink was already installed onto the card when i bought it..and also i can look into the 3rd party heatsink but im not sure its going to be worth it...i could seriously cook an Egg on my card....
