DVD-RW drive changes to a CD drive when I insert a DVD disc

This is driving me nuts
Has been installed and working fine for the past year
Can still play CD's but won’t recognise a DVD of any description.
I'm using XP SP2, I have tried uninstalling, it reinstalls when I reboot, no change.
It’s an Atapi diamond data 4x, I was starting to get some dodgy burns so the last few weeks have been burning at 1x just to ensure a good copy.
As far as I can remember I haven’t changed anything

If some one could shed some light on this that would be great (It's coming close to being a PC piñata)

Thanks for the welcome Gecko and the links.
I had tried the driver link but the firmware install didn’t recognise my burner (too old maybe?) I spoke to their support and they said there were no drivers it is part of XP.
I can't even play a DVD so would Nero make any difference at this stage?
The only thing I can think of is I still have an old CD drive shown as installed [but was disabled] maybe it is conflicting with it? But for the life of me I can't delete it. When I do as soon as I reboot it finds it and reinstalls it
