general mouse query

I just got hold of a microsoft wireless optical mouse 2.0
The mouse works fine and eveything.
The scroll button on it tilts from left to right, and can be used to scroll horizontally.
However, I was wondering if there was any way i could turn it into the 'backwards' and 'forwards' function while i'm in windows or browsing the internet.
My old mouse had side buttons on it, so I used those to move back and forward, but this has no side buttons
I tried the software that comes with it, but there is no option to assign the horizontal scroll to anything.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
