Personally, I have never found that core techologies to be all that significant when running a PC. I game, and I game alot. I didnt go for the latest Chipset because I didnt have any money to. I never regreted it and I play everying that is up to date. (Still only an Intel 2.6 Ghz)

As for the graphics card and SLI, don't waste your money just yet. Shell out for the 6800. I wouldnt even go to the GT because it only slightly beat out the regular 6800 (which I have btw).

For motherboards, I only trust Abit and Asus.

Hope this helps.

For what it is worth here are my 2 cents. If your going for gaming and money is not an issue.

Intel P4 3.2 with the hyper threading
2 gig of ram W/ coolers
Super micro mother board, I use to be big on Asus but they seem to be having issues as
of late. Or Abit is fine.
Gforce 6800 GT
As much cooling stuff as you can fit into the case.
