System Memory Issue, mobo will not detect module

Heres my setup: Gigabyte GA-7VAX Rev 1.1 mobo, running on BIOS F10, 1.8 ghz athlon, 512 MB Samsung PC3200 DDR400 memory (i think its CL 2.5), Geforce 4 4600, running XP pro SP1,

I recently bought 512 MB of GeIL PC 3200 DDR400 memory (CL=2.5 6-3-3). I installed it in the center slot, the existing 512 MB of pc3200 ddr400 samsung was on the left. When i booted, dos nor windows detected the new memory. I took out the old memory, and left the new in. Booted up, still said 512 MB of memory, no probs in windows. I tested each of the 3 slots with each stick of memory, no probs with slot failure. I then tried every possible combination for placement of the modules, still only 512 MB is detected. I would like to know how to fix this, and help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

there probably isn't a way to get this to work. Ram can be very stubborn. For some reason those 2 ram modules don't like each other. I always try to match modules (2 of the same part number) or at least match brand when I put more than 1 module in a machine.

If I were you, I'd live with 512 (which is plenty of ram in most cases) and keep ahold the new stick for your next build
