When it comes to overall performance how does a Sempron 3100+ based system perform? It is worth going for Sempron based system or is AMD Athlon 64 / P4 the ultimate choice? The purpose is general home/office/internet computing and not very gaming intensive
I heard that now Sempron 3100+ is also 64 bit processor..is it true? Thanks..

There are indeed 64 bit semprons but i would encourage you to read through all the articals
I prefer amd over intel any day but if your interested in going with 64 bit, go with the amd athlon 64's.

If you are building the system yourself, I agree with Liljim. but if your buying this system off of the shelf you are in trouble.
AMD builds by Wallmart or whatever are usually pure crap. They are trying to give you more for very little cost. These retailers are trying to corner the low end market. Don't do it. "Intel inside," is usually a pretty good indication of quality inside the machine.
I have nothing against AMD, but if you are going to cut costs and deliver a machine, you have to use AMD, its $100 cheaper to use. And if they cut corners there, your buying some stuff thats got to be a little "old."
If AMD is such a great a CPU, why don't we see it in more laptops?
ans. It burns a little too hot for laptops
