Interesting. My first thought for you to try is checking for new drivers through HP. Usually they have something newer than the driver that comes on the install disk. Here's a link to their driver page

I came across this the other day, only they let the system run all night.
In the morning they had 57 copies of the same document ("I just kept clicking print")

Open the printer properties, scroll through the tabs looking for a Print Priority setting,
some HPs properties have two different settings for their print priority.
Set the priority to the highest you can, reboot the system and try to print.

If it is a USB printer,Try going into Device Manager and remove all of the USB items and reboot.

If that doesn't work, remove the printer physically from the system and remove the printer from the operating system.

A lot of USB printers and scanners demand that the unit NOT be attached until prompted to do so on the install.

Do a reinstall following the directions. It will tell you when to plug it in.
