Comp won't start up...

Postby Junior_co » Fri Nov 11, 2005 6:16 am

We're having some trouble with our #2 Computer....

It doesn't seem to want to start up. This is a system that has been working but recently has been acting up. It seemed to me like it might have been a power supply issue.

It started out with having trouble turning on every now and then. It got to be more and more often. Now it just won't. I swapped out the PS but it acts the same... Also, sometimes it turns on the drives, sometimes it doesn't. I hear fans turning on but that is usually as far as it goes..

Sometime I get some beeps on start up, but usually not. It happens rarely and usually catches me off guard, but I think it is one long beep and then two short beeps

I've tried to find what these might mean by doing some searches but can't find them.... Anyone have some suggestions where to find a list of these codes to look up?

I'm thinking that its having some BIOS problems....

What do ya think??

Good on ya

We would need to know what kind of bios it is, AMI, Award, Phoenix, HP and so on.

I'm affraid that I can't even answer that. All I can tell you is that it has an AMD processor in it that is about 4 (maybe older) years old.

How can one tell what the BIOS is and what other info might I try and get? Remember that the comp won't turn on....

Hi Junior_co,

Open up the case and look for the motherboard make and model numbers.
From there we can find out what kind of BIOS is used.

If I had to guess I would say that it’s most likely the Ram. :(

Gecko, Thanks for the info on the alarm codes...

I tried to reseat the Video card today, but that didn't change anything.

It looks like that motherboard is only capable of 4x agp cards. My only other agp video card is an 8x... will the MB accept it for trial purposes and only run at 4x??

My other option is to install the PCI video card that I have and see how that works....

I will try these options tomorrow afternoon when I am on my weekend....

I will let you know how things turn out.

Thanks again
