I'm looking to buy a new processor but I know nothing about processors. The one I have now is 1.7 GHz. The one I was looking at is 3.2 GHz. I don't know if it's good or not because I know nothing about them. I also don't know what would fit in my computer. I have a dell demension 4400. This is what it says under system properties.

Intel(R)
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 1.70 GHz
1.69 GHz, 640 MB of RAM

The one I was looking at is this one:

I'm not sure if it is any good or if it would fit in my computer. Thank you for your help.

Dell's web site doesn't say what socket you have on your motherboard so I cannot really say. :(

How can I tell which socket I have?

It might be in your manual, if not then you can use SiSoft Sandra Lite to find out.

In the upper left of this forum is a link for SiSoft Sandra Lite
Download and install SiSoft Sandra Lite and select launch at finish of install.
Select CPU & BIOS information, under “Processor” the “Package” section will tell you what socket you have.

If I must, i'll get a new motherboard. What do you suggest? I don't want anyhting too extreme or two expensive. I tried looking at motherboards myself but it is all gibberish to me. What are some suggestions that you might have?
