CD tray auto ejects!

Postby patkim » Sat Jun 24, 2006 9:17 am

I have been observing recently that the DVD Rom tray automatically ejects at random. There is no CD in it as such. I have Win XP pro. Samsung DVD ROM. AMD Athlon 2000 based system.

I am not running any audio/video player or editing software while this has happened.
I have no clue as to why it is happening this way. I looked into event viewer, but there’s no relevant message there.

There could be a weird jam in the mechanism or a bug in the driver.
Try a driver update first. It should be somewhere on the official samsung website.

I’ve seen that happen to CD/DVD drives before when they are starting to go out.
But I’ve never seen one do it randomly and that worries me a little.
There is the possibility that your system has been compromised and some one has gained access.
There are “kiddy script” programs out there that let others control things like you CD/DVD tray.

Might I suggest that you go and use their free online trojan/spyware scanner.
You must use a browser that supports ActiveX like Internet Explorer to use ewido’s free online scanner.
