First you should check to see if there is a install log for the scanner program.
It would be located in the C:\Program Files\(scanner program) directory it should have either a *.txt or a *.log file extension.
That will tell you what all was installed and with luck the registry entries as well.

If you don’t have an install log then it gets a little more complicated to remove everything.
Most often if you can clear the registry of all references to the program you can then get it to reinstall.
Make sure you export the registry before you do anything to the registry

You could also check the manufacturer’s website for removal advice.

Start > Run type regedit and press enter, click file and select export to backup the registry.

While in the registry editor press the f3 key to bring up the find box.
Type in the name of the program and press enter to search for those entries
What is the make and model number of your scanner?
Also what software name are you having trouble with?

Hey, its fixed! I ran the offical unistall program that came with the driver but that did'nt do any thing so I tried unistall the drivers from within 'Properties' tab and not by right clicking on the device in the main device manager window and selecting Uninstall. It seems to have worked. Thanks for the help.
