Installing LINUX...

Hi!

I'm trying to install Fedora Core 3 Linux. I have a 200GB hard disk. I partitioned it: 20GB - Windows XP Pro; 100GB for files; and the remaining 80GB I didn't touch and up to now it's free and unformatted space.

When I tried to install Fedora Core 3 on the remaining 80gig, after the Language select, i got this:

"ERROR: No hard disk was found to install files. Please check your hardware." (something like that)

I can't get to the partition part coz it can't see anything to partition. What could be wrong? Is this hardware compatibility? If so, what should I do about it?

I also tried installing other distributions of Linux namely Slackware and SUSE just to check if it's a compatibility issue, but I got the same result - 'no hard drive found'.

I also checked my BIOS, and in the Driver Configuration this is what I have:

Primary Master: DVD RW 1608
Primary Slave: not installed
Secondary Master: not installed
Secondary Slave: not installed

Is this right that my DVD-ROM is set as Primary Master? Could this be the cause of my problem. If so, what should I do about it? I'm a total noob so please bear with me.

And by the way, my hard disk is IDE.

I'd really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

Looks like the dvd and the hard drive are not configured right. Put the DVD on one Ide cable. That may not be possible with some of the new motherboards, if thats the case, set the hard drive as master and the dvd as slave and reboot the system.

If the drive is a Western Digital, they ship with the "cable select" choosen. Just remove the clip if its a single drive. Otherwise if you're sharing the ide cable set the HD to master.

Then see if the drive pops up in the BIOS
