Hello amacfantasy, and welcome to our forum

Let's see if we can find any information on what could be causing this.

Go to Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Event viewer > look in the system section.

You are looking for any red or yellow icons, double click on the icon.
Click inside the 'Description' section then highlight the text and copy and paste it into notepad.
At the bottom of the event window check 'words' and then copy and paste that text also
Then past it all into your reply to this thread.

If you don't show any errors in the event viewer then:
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery section
Settings button > System Failure section > check the box 'Write an event to the system log'

Thanks for the reply Gecko. I would do that for you but the problem is now it has been acting up for the past 3 weeks to where i cant get into windows pretty much without it hibernating so got any other ideas until i can get into windows again? Also on another forum a guy told me to replace the CMOS battery. Could a sort of messed up CMOS battery be the cause?

can you boot into safe mode?

You might be able to follow Gecko's instructions from there

amacfantasy,

As liljim said try safe mode:

Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

If your system goes right into this hibernation as you say there may be a hardware problem.
But try safe mode first and see if it stays on.

amacfantasy,

My first guess would be over heating caused by a dead/clogged cpu fan.

My next guess would be the power supply over heating caused by a dead/clogged psu fan.

When you turn the system on, put your hand behind the tower and see if you can feel air blowing out near the top.
That is where the power supply should be, look for fan holes in a circle there should be air flowing out of them.

You will have to take the side cover off the case to check the cpu fan.

yes there is air coming out of power supply it is not clogged or anything nor is the cpu fan. i doubt it would be overheating for me because i can have the pc off for a week in a very chilled room and cut it on for the first time in a week and it will hibernate still right off the bat most of the time any other suggestions?

I agree with Gecko. It could be the power supply. If you ever open up a failed one, sometimes it's just the capacitors leaking all over. Usually there is a strong electrical odor.

Three years of use is pretty good for a power supply. Try swapping it out with a new one.

amacfantasy,

The fact that you can't even get safe mode to run is not good.

Have you tried loging in using the administrator account through safe mode?
It could be just a setting for the user account.

Any of the virus that I know of that can cause somewhat this type of behavior will just reboot the system.

Also what makes you think that it's hibernating, could you just be loosing the video?
