Hey

Just bought a new PC i built it myself. Specs are

Q660 2.40GHz Quad
2gigs of DDR2 Ram
8800GTX Gfx Card.
X-Fi soundcard

Problems:

My harddrive sounds like it just came out of a pentium3. Its always making loud loading noises.

I had Vista installed first and it did it so i uninstalled Vista and installed XP and it still does it after i install the drivers for my motherboard, soundcard and gfx card.

I got 2 new HDD with this build and they did it also so i took them out and put in another HDD i had in thinking it might stop it however no such luck. It stops for a little while but starts up again. Its REALLY annoying.

Also i had a copy of XP installed on a PC which i formatted. Now when i try to install windows it says invailed key.

Also if anyone has a CoolMaster case how the hell do you get the side panels back on without twisting metal?

Any suggestions would be great Thanks

Hello HardNRG, and welcome to our forums.

Is the hdd light going on when you hear this noise?

On a new install of XP or vista there will be a lot of indexing of the contents of you hdd. As you add programs and files more indexing will happen and could account for the added hdd running.

Are you sure it's the hdd and not the cpu, case or video fan?

As to the invalid key are you installing the same version of XP that you have the key for?
There's, xp pro, xp pro corporate, xp home, xp home corporate, xp oem pro and xp oem home

Sorry but I don't have a CoolMaster case, maybe someone else can sound in.

Your hdd may just be loud anyway. I baught one which claimed to be silent, a 500gb i dont remeber what make, but its loud as hell. I knew it would be because of the price, only cost me around 60 pounds ($120). Its a shame its so loud, but i can deal with that for being cheap :)
