is my drive currupted??

Postby xxxviking » Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:14 pm

I have a friend who wants to copy approx 600 pics to cd(dvd). When trying to copy a message comes up saying "Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file. What do you want windows to do?" The only options you have from here are to retry, skip or cancel.

When I managed to successfully move a couple of the pictures to a folder to copy to cd it then told me there was no writeable disc in the drive, which was not the case...

Any suggestions for what the problem could be?

There could be two issues here. If you download a lot of files from Limewire, especially the porn goodies, the file names are too long to burn. You have to go into the limwire library and shorten them up. I think that the max is 128 characters. You can't change a lot of them from XP, your system will do weird things like the desktop will reboot when you try to rename.

The second thing is nesting. If the items being copied are more than 16 directories deep, it isn't going to work, it will fail. There is a work around depending on the burning software, but its easier to dump it into a non nested directory.
