Possible PSU problems

Postby venney » Sat Jul 12, 2008 1:49 am

Hello everyone, well its about time i post a problem.

As much as i love my pc, there are some problems with it.

For some really strange reason, my pc has been crashing. The only way i can explain why its wired is that i had music playing, all of a sudden it stopped. i walk over to the pc to see what’s wrong, and rebooting. so i just went off and continued getting ready for work. i came back, and all the web pages i was on were back, and windows media player was back up. now unless i put it in sleep mode with my remote by accident (which i dont think i did) there has to be a problem.

The other symptom is that sometimes the pc will not even boot up. I will press the on button and nothing. As if its not plugged in. i mess around with the lead at the back, turn the psu power switch on and off, cum back in a bit and try again and it sometimes works.

Now my deduction is that the psu is dieing? which would be great, as i do want a new quiet one, so this is a perfect chance to spend some hard earned money!

What do you recon?

Thanks for any advice. I am meaning to open it up and make sure all the cables are fully pushed in.

it does sound like psu trouble, mainly because you said it sometimes wont power up but i suggest you run a memtest also. Memory will cause a machine to reboot more often than a psu. Run memtest 86 overnight just to eliminate the possibility.
