Erasing a Hard Drive

Postby Arastar » Thu Feb 19, 2004 6:20 pm

I have to return a hard drive to Maxtor under warranty. I have personal financial information on there that I don't trust in anyone's hands. Is it possible for me to erase the drive without using my PC? The drive doesn't work in my computer anymore...jsut causes crashes but I assume they'll try to get into it to figure out the problem.

Don't want to take that chance.

Thanks!

I would find a friend with a computer to erase it for you, but all Maxtor does really is get a perm marker and write "BAD" on it and throw it in a big pile . Or they erase it and see if they can recycle it.

If anyone gets your personal info from that harddrive after you send it in, Maxtor can be help liable and sued :)
