HDD contents incorrectly recognised
Hiya guys and gals,
In a nutshell - I tried to attach my main drive as a secondary to a friends pc, that didn't work, and now my main drive only shows the contents of my friends secondary drive.
It seems that my drive 'thinks' it has the contents of my friends' drive.
What I did to mess things up:
My friend has a windows xp system with a secondary drive.
I disconnected his secondary drive and attached my main drive (which had win98 on it).
I put the same cables from his secondary drive into my old main one, I didn't know I had to change the jumper so initially it was attached with the jumper in master setting. Since I have tried it with the jumper in slave position but with identical results.
When booted Windows XP said that his drive was still attached and only showed the folders and files that his drive contained (his drive was sitting on the desk). These folders and files were not useable as they weren't actually on my HDD.
Now when I try to boot my HDD in my PC it boots to a C prompt and the contents (dir) show the folders and files of my friends secondary drive.
Please any advice would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to lose my data if at all possible.
Thanks in advance,
Dave
p.s. Sorry about the long post :)
