Laptop power up issue

Postby mikepatton32 » Sat Jan 30, 2010 5:47 pm

Hi

I have a dell studio 1535 laptop, windows vista 32 bit. I have a strange initial power up problem with the system. The usual place to turn it on was a button on the right hand side of the machine, this was the case until a few weeks ago and it suddenly stopped working? The way i have to power it up now is by the touchpad above the keyboard, it looks like a media icon, i have to put my finger on it for a second and it boots up? its got the latest bios and all drivers are up to date, its now baffling me as i want to sell the laptop but i need the proper way to start it up, or i may put off any buyer. Any help would be great.

Cheers, Karl

I unfortunately have no idea what would cause that other than a bad switch. Cant say why its powering from a media button unless it was always capable of doing so. With dell Dimension desktops, the power button assembly is crap and often fails. I've replaced more than one and could possibly be a similar issue with your notebook. Someone else may have more to add, my apologies for not having more information.
