Mixing RAM

Is there anything wrong with mixing RAM of the same spec from different manufacturers?
Will I need to be careful with keeping the same manufacturer's RAM in slots 1 & 3, and the others in 2 & 4?
The RAM I have is Kingston DDR 400MHz PC3200.

Well its all very circumstantial really. Typically, manufacture isnt nearly as important as specs but its just good practice to keep everything identical to avoid the possibility of problems. To establish dual channel, the two sticks need to be exact in specs and for your ddr its 1-3 2-4 as u stated. Although it may run with mixed on 1-3 its no guarantee that you will get the performance you should. If your going to mix at all, making sure 1-3 match each other and 2-4 to each other is the safest bet.

Note that on newer boards ram slots are configured different, its 1-2 and 3-4 and are typically color coded to ensure ram in installed properly.
