Windows Media Player movies have slow audio

On many, but not all, movies I download and play on WMP the audio is slowed down so that the talking sounds ridiculously deep. The visual playback seems to be normal though. I am using windows XP. All drivers are updated, the only thing I have not done yet is downloaded SP1 update from microsoft. Can anyone help me fix this?

What format are the movies in?
