Dell Open Manage + ITA - problem with SNMP

Postby Kestrel » Fri Jun 25, 2004 3:49 pm

I know this is a long shot.. I've been tasked with setting up IT assistant for Dell's Open Manage system.. (on my second day in my new job!!)

the problem I have is.. I have the server configured to send SNMP traps to the IT Assistant services PC.. I also have event filters and actions set up.. the problem seems to be that the server only sends an SNMP trap (and therefore.. an alert and e-mail) when the SNMP service is stopped and restarted on the managed server...

don't supose anyone has come across this one before... any help appreciated.

Quick update.. I worked out that Server Assistant has to be installed AFTER SNMP.. which has solved that particular problem.. however.. I still can't get alerts to activate on the IT Assistant machine..

the log files show the critical errors claerly in the logs, but despite having set up event filters to detect for example chassis intrusion, along with an action to display an alert and send an e-mail, the ITA system does not display alerts except when the server is rebooted..

anyone help?
