How do i make my internet connection always stay on

hello please can you tell me how i can keep my internet on all the time
i want it so that when i log on i am connected to the internet please help i am using wanadoo broadband

Go to www.no-ip.com

Register for their free service.

Once you have an account with them, go here:

http://www.no-ip.com/downloads.php?page=win

Install that. Keep it running,and just set it to how frequent you want to to update your IP. Like every minute, every five, etc... It will keep your IP current if it's always changing, or disconnecting.


Or, you could always try one of those stay connected apps.

Something like this, or software similar to it:

If your using XP with some type of dial-up connection you can go to your network connections folder via the control panel and right click your internet connection,select properties.Go to the Options tab and you will see something simular to this:



Check "Redial if line is dropped"

Idle time = Never

Set the amount of desired redial attempts

I think Peahead will be DSL in which case he wants to be able to boot up and have the connection made instantly and automatically without clicking anything to connect and having to sign-on.

My neighbours computer does that but she's on cable. I have DSL and installed my modem software recently on my new computer and am wracking my brains to remember whether I was asked at setup whether I wanted my connection to be made automatically..I can't remember!

That would be an option though, to reinstall the software and see if you are asked if that's what you want to do.

It was a discussion about losing connection... and your IP probably changes everytime you connect... taking 'always on' to mean that you don't lose connection... I'm not sure that was what you meant that's why I answered differently.

Let me know how you get on with your 'always on' connection... because I sometimes wish I had that too. You can tell me the answer when you find it.

If you want to connect to your DSL on bootup, put a shortcut in your startup folder to the DSL software.
